In 2005, I was standing in my neighborhood talking to a friend.
“Hey Anthony, how’s work?” he asked.
“Good, thanks, Bob. We’re actually looking for a receptionist,” I replied.
Bob said, “Really? My sister’s friend is looking for a job.”
And just like that, the American dream quietly began. Start on the lowest rung and, through dedication and reliability, rise all the way to second in command.
The truth is, Joanne was qualified for far more than a receptionist position even then. But sometimes the ladder is crowded, and timing determines when a person can climb. So what makes Joanne not just qualified, but the perfect fit?
It begins with that first position. The receptionist is the first person a client meets. In our field, the people walking through the door are often stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn.
Joanne has always met them with a warm smile, steady reassurance, and, on many days, a much-needed hug. And then there are the phones.
Fifty calls a day.
Two hundred fifty a week.
More than one hundred thousand in a decade.
Each one needs to be answered, triaged, understood, and directed to the right person who can help. Joanne has heard nearly every scenario imaginable and has been part of the solution every step of the way.
But her value extends far beyond the front desk. It includes years of relationships with staff, vendors, clients, and with me as CEO and President. That depth of trust and understanding is rare, and it cannot be taught.
Now, Joanne is moving from receptionist, to office manager, to her new role as Director of Operations*.
Her responsibilities will include human resources, IT, facility and operations management, finances, sales and marketing, and, most importantly, helping guide Senior Resource Center, Inc. into the future so we can continue meeting the needs of every client who walks through our door.
Congratulations to Joanne. Her parents, her children, her family, and her friends have every reason to be proud. And so do we, her colleagues and biggest supporters.
