Reframing How We Support The Ones Who Raised Us
When a child is born, society steps in with support. Family leave, pediatricians, daycare options, tax credits – these systems may not be perfect, but they exist. There is a shared understanding that raising a child takes time, money, and community infrastructure. Parents are told: You’re not alone.
But when it comes to caring for our elders (our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles), the message changes. Support becomes patchy, confusing, and often inaccessible. Caregiving becomes a silent struggle rather than a shared responsibility. Too often, families are left navigating the aging journey alone, without guidance or resources.
At Senior Resource Center, Inc., we’ve seen firsthand how this imbalance affects families. We hear it in the phone calls from overwhelmed adult children, in the frustration of seniors denied services because they “have too much saved,” and in the burnout of caregivers trying to do everything themselves, it’s time we asked: Why don’t we treat elder care with the same seriousness, planning, and public investment as childcare?
At Senior Resource Center, we do. Every day, we help families navigate aging with clarity, compassion, and support. When you bring your loved ones to us, we care for them the way they once cared for you.
